The Air and Space Hackathon, organized by the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum in collaboration with Deloitte, aims to inspire high school students to explore sustainable and growing pathways in STEM fields. The hackathon is designed to provide educational opportunities, particularly for underserved populations, to advance their skills through competition. Participants are encouraged to develop human-centered designs and solutions, focusing on understanding end-users and addressing the need for diversity in STEM careers, particularly in aerospace and aeronautics. The hackathon involves creating a web or mobile prototype using Figma, with a challenge statement that focuses on equitable access to advanced air mobility and commercial spaceflight infrastructure. The designs are intended for a K-12 student audience and may include interactive maps, websites, games, quizzes, or mobile applications. This event is an immersive, in-person experience held at the National Air and Space Museum, scheduled from February 9 to February 11, 2024. Participants in the hackathon will benefit from developing skills in design thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration, as they work on projects that will be showcased in a selected exhibit at the Museum. This hackathon is particularly aimed at high school students, and interested participants are encouraged to connect with the Museum’s educational staff for further details.
