"Amplify: The Sound of Detroit" is a program offered by the Motown Museum that aims to celebrate and build upon the rich legacy of Classic Motown, particularly the unique voices of Detroit. It provides a platform for aspiring artists from Detroit to grow, connect, and showcase their talent through three months of artist development. This development includes master classes, vocal coaching, performance coaching, and professional styling. The program culminates in a performance on stage where participants compete for the title of Amplify Artist of the Year. The winner receives a cash prize, performance opportunities, studio time, a national media tour, and professional coaching, among others. The second and third place artists also receive cash prizes, opportunities to perform, and recording time in the Hitsville NEXT Recording Studio. The program is delivered in-person at Hitsville NEXT in Detroit, Michigan. It begins in November and concludes in March, with live auditions taking place in early December. Artists looking to participate are encouraged to pre-register for auditions and should be prepared to perform two songs that best showcase their vocal ability. Participants must be residents of Southeast Michigan and 16 years or older. Those under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian and sign a Minor Release Form upon arrival. Participants who are employees of the Motown Museum, immediate family of anyone on the judges’ panel, currently signed to a major label, or participated in the previous year's competition as a Top 10 finalist are not eligible to apply. The main benefit of this program is the opportunity for artists to receive professional development and exposure. This experience provides participants with significant growth opportunities and the chance to connect with industry professionals from Detroit and Los Angeles.
