The Atlanta Film Society Internship is a learning opportunity designed to provide a well-rounded experience and knowledge in producing a film festival, along with working for a non-profit, member-based, media arts organization. The primary objective of the internship is to facilitate understanding and hands-on experience in administrative duties, membership, and event planning and coordination. The program does not provide internships in film production. The internship covers key skills such as media production, marketing, communication, design, operations management, and festival planning. It includes duties such as coordinating ATLFS's media production, assisting in A/V Toolbox rentals, maintaining ATLFS's web presence, and assisting in creating marketing materials. Interns also assist in organizing and communicating with volunteers, scheduling upcoming screenings, workshops, and events, and general office duties. The internship is delivered in-person with interns required to work a minimum of 10 hours per week, Monday through Friday, and to be available for select after-hour events. The duration of the internship spans a minimum of four months or 16 weeks. For the Festival Intern role, the term runs from February to May, with increased hours required during festival dates. While the program does not provide specific information about the instructors, interns are expected to work closely with the Community Relations Director for content writing. Eligibility for the internship requires participants to be at least 18 years old, although internships for high school seniors are available on a case by case basis. Other prerequisites include excellent written and oral communication skills, phone manners, and organizational abilities. The expected outcomes of the internship include gaining experience in media arts, event planning, and non-profit organization operations. The internship does not provide any specific certifications but equips participants with a broad range of skills relevant to the film industry and non-profit sector. It is a non-paid learning opportunity, however, it offers complimentary ATLFS membership and, for Festival Interns, 2 ATLFF All Access passes.
