The BioGENEius Challenge Series, provided by the Biotechnology Institute, is a prestigious competition that offers high school students the opportunity to showcase their outstanding research in biotechnology. Participants compete in one of three tracks: the Global Healthcare Challenge, the Global Sustainability Challenge, and the Global Environment Challenge. The main objective of the series is to recognize and celebrate exceptional research conducted by young scientists in these fields, providing them with a platform to present their work to industry and academic experts. The competition covers key topics in medical biotechnology, agricultural biotechnology, and industrial and environmental biotechnology. It aims to foster skills in scientific research, critical thinking, and innovation. The initial rounds of the competition are held virtually, with top-scoring individuals advancing to an in-person final round during the BioFuture Conference at the CURE Innovation Campus in New York City in late October,. Finalists will have the opportunity to meet with industry leaders, tour labs, and attend sessions. To participate, students must be high school students conducting research in biotechnology. Those entering the At-Large BioGENEius Challenge should ideally have placed in the upper 5% of participants in local, regional, or state science fairs to be competitive. The competition does not list specific qualifications or backgrounds for the instructors, as judging is conducted by industry and academic subject matter experts. The benefits of participating in the BioGENEius Challenge Series include recognition for research excellence, networking opportunities with professionals, and exposure to advanced biotechnology concepts and practices. Participants gain valuable experience in presenting their research, which can be beneficial for future academic and professional endeavors.
