BKLYN BookMatch Teen is an engaging opportunity offered by Brooklyn Public Library for teens in grades 9-12 who have an affinity for the library, books, and other media, and want to be involved in an essential library service: readers’ advisory. The program aims to teach the art of recommending books from librarians, book selectors, publishers, and authors, providing a readers’ advisory service exclusive to teens. Moreover, participants get the chance to represent BPL at events and select books to be added to the Library’s collection. The program curriculum focuses on the art of recommending books, with participants receiving training from librarians, book selectors, publishers, and authors. Participants are also given the opportunity to offer a readers' advisory service exclusive to teens, and to contribute to the library's collection by selecting books to be added. BKLYN BookMatch Teen is conducted in-person at Brooklyn Public Library's Central Library, located at 10 Grand Army Plaza in Brooklyn. It starts with eight weekly Wednesdays in November and December for training, followed by bimonthly meetings and live book matching at BPL events through early June. All readers of different interests and levels are welcome. Participants in the BKLYN BookMatch Teen gain several benefits and outcomes. They make connections to careers in publishing, writing, libraries, and more, earn a stipend, volunteer hours, and resume-boosting experience, and also have the opportunity to make new friends over books, lively discussions, and food.
