This program, now in its fourth year, emphasizes personal growth as writers, self-esteem enhancement, and addressing relevant societal issues. Under the guidance of Urban Word Artistic Director, award-winning poet and author, Mahogany L. Browne, participants are given a platform to explore their creativity and express their thoughts. The learning opportunity is designed to give participants a chance to learn and grow within a supportive community. The program focuses heavily on writing skills and personal development, encouraging participants to address issues that matter most to them. As such, it equips them with critical thinking skills and a strengthened ability to articulate themselves effectively. The fellowship program is curated by Mahogany L. Browne, the Artistic Director of Urban Word. Browne is a well-established figure in the literary sphere, with recognition as a poet, author, and an organizer. Her extensive experience and dynamic leadership contribute to the program's credibility and effectiveness. Eligibility for the program is defined by age (13-19 years) and location (NYC/NJ), with an emphasis on girls and non-binary youth. This program provides an invaluable opportunity for participants to hone their writing skills, enhance their self-esteem, and engage in meaningful discussions about issues they care about. The outcomes of the program are not tied to specific certifications, but rather, the invaluable experience of personal growth, self-expression, and development as a writer.
