Bonus Tracks is a free, innovative after-school program designed for high school students who are interested in learning about the multifaceted music industry. The program, a collaboration between the Motown Museum’s Hitsville NEXT and Universal Music Group, offers a comprehensive curriculum led by seasoned professionals that covers key topics such as A&R, Marketing, Streaming, and Content Creation. This exciting program runs from March 5th to April 4th, with sessions held every Tuesday and Thursday from 4PM to 6PM at the Hitsville NEXT Campus. The schedule includes a diverse range of topics, like understanding the role of A&R, exploring publicity and tour promotions, learning about radio promotions and markets, and understanding the importance of video and content in today’s music industry. The program culminates with a capstone project, expected to be completed and presented on time. The eligibility requirements for Bonus Tracks include being a student in 10th through 12th grade from a Metro Detroit High School, having a strong interest in learning the business of music, and maintaining satisfactory academic and behavioral standing. While previous internship experience can be beneficial, it is not a requirement for participation. On successful completion of the Bonus Tracks program, students stand a chance to win a $25,000 scholarship, awarded to the student who best exemplifies the program's mission, shows evidence of community leadership, and displays strong commitment to academic excellence. This program not only empowers students with a deep understanding of the music industry but also offers them a platform to showcase their talents and skills, making it a rewarding learning opportunity.
