Brown University Pre-College Programs provide high school students with an opportunity to engage in intellectually and socially formative experiences that mirror the college environment. The main objective is to foster independent thinking, critical engagement, and personal responsibility among students. The programs offer over 300 courses across various disciplines, including environmental studies, medicine, visual art, leadership, law, psychology, mathematics, creative writing, and history. These courses are non-credit and designed to encourage students to explore and take academic risks without the pressure of formal grades. The programs are delivered in multiple formats, including on-campus, online, and in domestic and international locations. Online courses are available in asynchronous, mostly asynchronous, and blended formats, allowing flexibility in participation. Students can choose courses ranging from one to six weeks in duration, with the curriculum reflecting the breadth of Brown's liberal arts offerings. Participants are taught by a diverse group of instructors and staff in an academically rigorous environment. While specific instructor qualifications are not detailed, the program emphasizes a commitment to high-quality education and diverse perspectives. To participate, students must have a strong command of the English language, and international students may need to submit language proficiency assessments such as Duolingo, TOEFL, or IELTS. The outcomes of the Brown Pre-College Programs include a deeper awareness of personal abilities and interests, expanded knowledge of diverse perspectives, and preparation for the challenges of college life. Although the program does not directly influence Brown's undergraduate admissions, it equips students with skills and experiences that can be beneficial in any college application process. Below is a list of courses offered this summer. Course descriptions, dates, costs, and instructor details can be found on the Pre-College Program website.
