Collegiate Start@Elon is a dual enrollment program offered by Elon University for high-achieving high school seniors. The main objective of the program is to provide an opportunity for students to simultaneously enroll in both high school and college courses, allowing them to earn both high school and college credit. The program offers over 40 courses in its curriculum, providing a breadth of advanced academic options. The program follows the regular academic semester schedule, with students able to take up to two college-level courses each fall and spring semester. As part of the Elon University community, students in the program are expected to uphold the Elon Honor Code and perform at a high level of academic rigor. They may engage in outside class activities or group work, in settings such as the library or student center, and have access to academic resources and support services like the writing/tutoring center and computer laboratories. Admission to the program requires students to be enrolled as a high school senior, have a cumulative unweighted GPA of 3.0 or higher, and have approval from their principal and guidance counselor. The program does not require SAT/ACT scores for application, but students should demonstrate good academic standing, readiness for college-level studies, and exemplary citizenship and character. As part of the application process, students must attend an orientation in August for the fall semester or January for the spring semester. Upon successful completion of the program, students will have gained college-level credits that can potentially be transferred to other institutions, though transfer credit articulation varies among institutions. The program director, Lesley Henry, can review the records of students who receive a final grade of C- or below to determine their eligibility to continue in the program. This program provides an enriching and rigorous academic experience for high school seniors, preparing them for future collegiate studies.
