The Congressional Art Competition, sponsored by the Congressional Institute, is a nationwide high school visual art competition aimed at recognizing and encouraging artistic talent across the United States. Since its inception in 1982, the competition has seen participation from over 650,000 high school students. Students are required to submit their artwork entries to their respective representative’s office, where panels of district artists select the winning pieces. These winning works are then displayed for one year at the U.S. Capitol, and winners are honored both in their districts and at an annual awards ceremony in Washington, DC. Participation in the competition requires students to confirm their district's participation by contacting their representative, reviewing the rules, and submitting a completed Student Release Form along with any other required materials by the specified deadline. The competition is open to high school students. The main outcomes of participating in the Congressional Art Competition include the recognition of artistic talent at both the district and national levels, as well as the opportunity to have one's artwork displayed at the U.S. Capitol.
