The Cycle Alliance program is a free, in-person learning opportunity offered by the Brooklyn Public Library, aimed at high school students interested in cycling, community engagement, and environmental advocacy. This program combines cycling education with practical workshops on bike maintenance, safe riding practices, and the role of cycling in promoting sustainability and urban mobility. Participants will learn essential skills such as basic bike repair, route planning, and urban cycling safety. The program also emphasizes the importance of cycling as a means of reducing carbon footprints and enhancing community health. Students will engage in hands-on projects, including group rides, repair clinics, and discussions on local environmental issues, providing them with a holistic understanding of cycling’s impact on urban life. The Cycle Alliance program runs throughout the year, with sessions held at various library branches across Brooklyn. It is ideal for students passionate about cycling and looking to make a positive impact in their communities. By the end of the program, participants will have gained practical cycling skills, a deeper understanding of environmental stewardship, and the confidence to advocate for sustainable transportation options in their neighborhoods.
