The DCTV Youth Media Fellowship is a free, comprehensive media arts training program designed for high school students in New York City. Targeting both beginners and those with more advanced skills, the fellowship provides an engaging platform for youth aged 14-18 to explore the art of filmmaking. Participants delve into essential aspects of documentary filmmaking, such as camera operation, editing, interviewing, and media literacy. The program emphasizes creativity and empowers young filmmakers to address issues affecting their communities through powerful storytelling. The fellowship is structured into three progressive levels. Media Fellows I introduces students to the fundamentals of documentary filmmaking, where they collaborate on fiction and documentary projects. Media Fellows II builds on this foundation, offering intermediate training with a focus on more advanced techniques in lighting, sound, and post-production. Students at this level produce both group and individual films. Media Fellows III is designed for those with extensive experience, guiding students through pre-professional training. Senior Fellows undertake in-depth projects, including a self-portrait and an individual film, with opportunities for domestic and international reporting assignments.
