The Design Career Fair is an annual event hosted by the Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum. The fair aims to provide a platform for teens to interact with distinguished designers from various fields, including fashion, product design, architecture, and graphic design. Participants can learn about diverse design careers, discover potential career paths, understand the roles of designers, and explore what aspects of their jobs designers find rewarding. Participants have the opportunity to interact with designers from renowned companies such as IBM, Adobe, Nike, and more. Past designers have included Anna Rice, Arem Duplessis, and Konjian Yu. In addition, design colleges from across the country, including SVA, Pratt, FIT, Cooper Union, Parsons, and others, have participated in the past, providing information and answering questions for interested students. The fair is a chance for students to engage in intimate conversations with professionals and representatives from design firms, design colleges, design-minded companies, and independent practices. The main objective is to make careers and educational pathways in design more understandable, accessible, diverse, and equitable. The fair offers insights into the complexities of professional design work and provides resources for networking and developing portfolios. The Design Career Fair is an in-person event. The event primarily targets ninth and tenth-grade students from New York City’s High School of Art + Design. The fair provides participants with valuable networking opportunities and insights into various design careers.
