SVA’s Pre-College Program is designed for high school students who want to enhance their creative skills, learn more about a particular field of art, develop a portfolio and experience the challenges and triumphs that exist at one of the most dynamic colleges. - Receive up to three college credits - Students will explore the fundamentals of art & design at a level not readily available in high school - Classes such as Animation, Advertising, Cartooning, Painting, Photography and many more In the first week, students will be introduced to essential concepts in graphic design. Type, color, form, hierarchy, and concept will be discussed in detail, with students designing projects, both by hand and on the computer, with these concepts in mind. By the end of the first week, students will have multiple projects completed, including posters, hand-drawn typography, and illustrations. Students will also receive instruction in the basics of the Adobe Creative Suite. For the second week, it's all about building a three-dimensional design project. Each student is given the very same object. In previous summers, the objects have been skateboards, chairs, and guitars. Each student is also given a word that represents a concept, movement or idea. The students then transform their objects into a 3D sculptural design piece that represents their word. It's a lot of work, but the results are always fun and really exciting!
