DreamYard's Dreamyard Dance is a transformative arts and social justice learning opportunity dedicated to working with Bronx youth. It's designed to build pathways toward equity and opportunity while supporting students to pursue higher learning, creative careers, and social action. Dreamyard Dance follows the organization’s core values of Create, Connect, Nurture, and Activate, and aligns with the NYC Department of Education’s Blueprint for the Arts and the NY State Learning Standards. The curriculum of Dreamyard Dance is designed to explore cultural and personal history through dance and movement. It encourages young people to pursue educational pathways toward higher learning, creative careers, and social action. The curriculum includes various forms of dance and movement that showcase unique identities and cultural heritage, fostering the development of a confident and creative community. This learning opportunity is delivered through in-school art residencies and after-school programs. The in-school program serves more than 10,000 students annually, while the after-school program offers high-quality arts instruction, community art initiatives, college readiness, leadership development, and social-emotional supports to over 2,000 K-12th graders. The program is designed for youth and young adults in the Bronx, focusing on those seeking higher learning, creative-filled careers, and social action. The main outcomes and benefits of participating in Dreamyard Dance include the development of artistic and creative skills, increased cultural awareness, and the building of pathways toward equity, opportunity, and social action.
