Envirothon is an environmental and natural resource conservation competition aimed at high school students aged 14-19 across the United States, Canada, and China. This program leverages STEM principles, problem-solving scenarios, experiential learning, and hands-on outdoor field experiences to inspire students to enhance their understanding of environmental science and address natural resource conservation challenges. The competition emphasizes five main areas of study: Aquatic Ecology, Forestry, Soils and Land Use, Wildlife, and a Current Environmental Issue that changes annually. Envirothon is delivered through in-person participation, where students engage in various hands-on and outdoor field activities. To qualify for the NCF-Envirothon annual international competition, teams must first win their local state, provincial, or partner nation Envirothon competition. The program provides a set of comprehensive Learning Objectives for each study area, assisting participating teams and their advisors in preparing for the competition. These Learning Objectives are designed to be comprehensive and are reviewed by advisors and educators to ensure they are teachable and relevant for the international competition. The main outcomes and benefits of participating in Envirothon include gaining leadership experience and exposure to environmental, natural resource, and conservation fields. Students have the opportunity to interact with leading professionals, which helps introduce them to various academic and career opportunities in these fields. The competition equips students with the tools, knowledge, and experiences necessary for success in future academic and professional endeavors related to conservation and environmental science.
