Evergreen, provided by The Hack Foundation, is a free Days of Service event focused on teaching teens how to code and build their own projects. The main objective is to support girls and gender minorities in learning to code by hosting gender-focused hackathons where participants can build websites, video games, applications, or even code a robotic arm. The curriculum includes various workshops or "tracks" designed for beginners. Key topics and skills covered are: - **Circuit Board Design**: Learning the fundamentals of PCB design using EasyEDA software, including creating a physical PCB. - **3D Modeling**: Building a 3D village using Spline, a web-based 3D design tool, which can later be used for websites, games, animation, and printing. - **Robot Art Generation**: Creating computer-generated art using Blot, a robotic arm, and learning JavaScript and digital fabrication. Evergreen is delivered in-person at the Amazon HQ in Seattle, WA, on May 3rd, 2024. The event is designed to be a one-day hackathon with workshops led by experienced Hack Club leaders. Participants can work individually or in teams to create projects they are proud of. There are no prerequisites or specific eligibility criteria other than being a high schooler. The main outcomes and benefits include gaining practical coding experience, learning new technical skills, and completing a project by the end of the day. Participants will also receive physical copies of their projects, such as a PCB or a robotic arm, enhancing the tangible impact of their learning experience.
