Back to database

The Toshiba/NSTA ExploraVision competition is a national science contest designed for K-12 students in the United States and Canada. With a strong emphasis on STEM, the competition encourages participants to envision and communicate new technologies that could exist 10 or more years in the future. Through collaborative brainstorming and research of current science and technology, students tackle real-world problems and simulate a real research and development environment. Participants work in teams of 2-4 students under the guidance of a teacher sponsor. The competition covers critical thinking, creative, and collaborative skills as students select a current technology, research it, envision its future development, and detail the pros, cons, and obstacles associated with their envisioned technology. The format includes both virtual and in-person elements, making it accessible to a wide range of students. The competition is open to all K-12 students enrolled in public, private, or home schools in the U.S. and Canada. By participating, students enhance their STEM skills, gain experience in teamwork and problem-solving, and foster scientific inquiry, preparing them for future careers in science and engineering.
