Fairfield University's Part-Time Visiting High School Students program offers a range of intensive courses designed to simulate an authentic college experience for high school students. The program is open to students in their sophomore, junior, or senior year of high school and provides an opportunity to earn credits that can be applied to high school or college. Courses are accessible during the traditional 15-week fall and spring semesters, as well as winter and summer sessions. These sessions offer accelerated courses in one, two, four, or five-week formats, and students are allowed to take one course per semester. The curriculum details, including course descriptions and schedules, are available online. It is recommended that high school students enroll in introductory or freshman-level courses numbered 999 or below. Students should have a minimum 3.2 GPA to enroll and are required to submit an unofficial high school transcript for review by the Office of Part-Time and Continuing Studies to ensure they have the necessary and relevant classroom experience to succeed in a college course. If the student wants to enroll in any upper-level credit course, prior faculty approval may be necessary to ensure that the necessary prerequisites for the course have been fulfilled. Successful transfer of college credits earned at Fairfield University while still in high school is solely up to the discretion of the college where the student is admitted. As a result, participation in the program can potentially provide a head start in college, pending the approval of the receiving institution.
