"Futures: Android Programming I" is a hands-on course offered by the University of California San Diego that aims to increase high school students' proficiency in organizing Android projects. It is the second course in the Android Programming series for high school students. The course offers an introduction to Software Development Kit (SDK) tools, enabling students to write Android applications for a wide range of phones and tablets. Key skills covered include delivering robust mobile business applications, creating intuitive and reliable software, designing user interfaces that work seamlessly, and integrating applications with enterprise web and location-based services. This course is entirely web-based and asynchronous, allowing students to complete the work between the course start and end dates at their own pace without the requirement for synchronous attendance. The course runs for approximately two and a half months, with the next course scheduled from January 6, 2025, to March 16, 2025. The instructor for the course is Norman McEntire, the founder of Servin Corporation. With over 25 years of experience in the field, McEntire has designed both hardware and software at all levels, from embedded Linux to enterprise software. His training clients include Dell, HP, IBM, Intel, NCR, and Qualcomm. Prerequisites for the course include successful completion of "Futures: Android Java Fundamentals." The course series must be completed in order, with students earning a passing grade in each course before enrolling in the next one. Upon completion of the course, students will have improved their skills in Android application development and design, preparing them for the next course in the series, "Futures: Android Programming II."
