The Greenwich Library Volunteering initiative is an opportunity for adults and high school students to contribute to the Greenwich community by participating in a variety of roles within the library. The roles include joining the Book Group for monthly discussions, participating in the Friday Film Advisory Board, contributing to the Oral History Project, and supporting children through the Outreach Committee. For high school students, there are additional opportunities in tech support. These roles offer a range of skills to be developed, such as deepening knowledge and enthusiasm for film, conducting and transcribing oral history interviews, and providing tech help to patrons. High school students who provide tech support help patrons navigate and use their devices, thus gaining valuable experience in technology and customer service. The delivery of these volunteering activities is in-person at the library. The frequency of involvement varies depending on the specific role, ranging from once a month to a few hours per month. High school students providing tech support are required to work a minimum of a two-hour shift and must attend an orientation before they start volunteering. Participation in the Greenwich Library Volunteering initiative is facilitated by the Friends of Greenwich Library, a volunteer-based organization that develops and supports programs and services at Greenwich Library. The prerequisites for participation include completing a volunteer form and attending an orientation for high school students interested in tech support. High school students must live in or attend schools in Greenwich to be eligible. The outcomes of participating in these volunteering activities include the development of a wide range of skills, from organizing and curating cultural events to providing tech support. In addition to skill development, high school students can also earn community service hours, contributing towards their overall academic profile.
