The High School Core Program, offered by Jobs for Maine Graduates (JMG), is a credit-based course targeted at high school students. The key objective is to ensure complete high school engagement, leading to enrollment in post-secondary education, credential programs, or quality jobs with a career pathway. Delivered in partnership with public schools, the program emphasizes smaller class sizes, facilitated by a full-time JMG Specialist. The JMG Specialist, who is trained, supported, and employed by JMG, delivers competency-based model curricula to 40 to 50 students per core program. This structure facilitates a more personalized and effective learning experience. The curriculum covers critical skills in leadership, teamwork, work habits, communication, public speaking, time management, personal finance, and career development. The program also incorporates community service and philanthropic components, demonstrating the importance of good citizenship and giving back to the community. In addition, all students participate in the JMG Professional Association, a student-led organization that provides additional opportunities to apply the learned skills. The program uses experiential-based education through extended learning opportunities, including statewide student enrichment activities, student shadow days at the Maine State Legislature, and career exploration experiences. After graduating high school, JMG Specialists continue to serve students for a minimum of 12 months, providing guidance and mentoring during the transition into post-secondary education, training, or the workforce. The High School Core Program is not only about academic success but also preparing students for real-world challenges. As a result, students are empowered with transferable skills, financial knowledge, and best practices to use throughout their lives. JMG also has a unique connection to Maine businesses, exposing students to diverse network of employers and career opportunities.
