JA High School Heroes, provided by Junior Achievement of Maine, offers a unique opportunity for high school students to develop leadership skills through the delivery of educational content in elementary schools. This learning experience focuses primarily on work readiness, offering a high level of preparation in this area, with secondary emphasis on financial literacy and entrepreneurship. The curriculum is designed to help participants identify qualities of a leader, use strong presentation skills, recognize techniques for teamwork, and apply critical thinking to problem-solving. Students will further learn the importance of decision-making and appreciate the value of constructive feedback. The program is delivered virtually and in-person, offering remote live implementation. This flexible format allows for an engaging learning experience that bridges the gap between classroom education and real-world application. The program's duration and specific schedule are coordinated to suit the needs of the class, providing a tailored learning experience for each group of students. The program's instructors are volunteers from the community who have been prepared by Junior Achievement to deliver engaging learning activities. They are equipped with the resources available in JA Connect® Learning Pathways, a self-guided experience including interactives, JA Here to Career, and games and apps for student use. Upon completion of the program, students will be able to identify leadership qualities, use effective presentation skills, solve personal and professional problems, apply critical thinking to work-based problems, recognize consequences of decisions, understand the value of constructive feedback, and develop a personal action plan. These outcomes offer students a foundational understanding of work readiness, financial literacy, and entrepreneurship, preparing them for future success.
