The Arts & Communication Pre-College Programs offer intensive summer experiences for high school students. Pre-College at Emerson offerings are challenging, fun, and designed to teach students competitive, practical skills in one academic area of communication and the arts. Living as an on-campus Emerson student, you will have access to instructors, resources, and spaces (i.e. tv studios, camera kits, sound stages, etc.) used by Emerson undergraduate students. A few select programs can also be completed for academic credit. The on-campus Journalism Institute helps rising sophomores, juniors and seniors explore digital journalism techniques in a variety of multimedia formats. Students move beyond the traditional methods of communicating news and explore using Twitter and other social media through their mobile devices to find and interview sources, take and format pictures, and shoot and edit video. These elements get scripted to create packages online and on the air. The program takes advantage of Emerson College's state-of-the-art journalism labs giving students access to the ultimate multimedia learning environment. Participation in this institute allows students to gain hands-on journalism skills by conducting interviews, attending news events, and experiencing live, current events happening in Boston. On the final day of the Institute, the group will present a sample of their work to an audience of family, friends, and peers. The Journalism Institute is offered as a noncredit or college credit program option.
