The Mentorship Program offered by the Bella Abzug Leadership Institute (BALI), is designed for high school juniors and seniors who are alumni of BALI. The program matches participants with professional mentors who work in the students' intended industry or career, providing them with the opportunity to learn about the field, network, and receive feedback on their work. Throughout the year, participants are involved in various activities such as reviewing resumes, participating in mock interviews, discussing career goals, job expectations, and employment trends, reviewing college essays and applications, attending company meetings, and participating in professional development workshops. The specifics of these activities are arranged between the mentor and mentee, aside from the required orientations, meet-and-greet, and end-of-year dinner organized by BALI. Eligibility for the program is limited to BALI alumni who are currently high school juniors or seniors in New York City. There are no academic or skill criteria for participation, but students should be prepared to meet with their mentor at least once a month or every other month. The program runs for a year, with applications opening in December. Upon completion, participants can expect to have gained valuable insight into their intended career field, improved their resumes, and developed their interview skills, which can significantly enhance their professional development and future career prospects.
