The Page 2 Digital Stage Workshop is a unique learning opportunity offered by Writopia Lab that harnesses the power of digital communication to create original theater pieces. The main objective of this workshop is to create a large-scale play, musical, or theatrical experience that reflects the current moment in time. This includes exploring emotions, stories, and themes experienced during times of isolation and connection. Over the course of five virtual sessions, participants from all over collaborate via Zoom and Google Docs to create scenes, monologues, and potentially songs. This shared process results in a group of short pieces that together form a large theatrical experience. The workshop concludes with an online dramatic reading of the participants' collective work for friends and family. During the workshop, participants develop skills in collaborative writing, emotional exploration, theme development, scene creation, and monologue composition. These skills enhance their ability to create poignant and relevant theatrical pieces. Participants are guided by experienced instructors from Writopia Lab, a team of published authors and produced playwrights passionate about fostering creativity in youth. There are no explicit prerequisites for participation, and all young writers are encouraged to contribute their unique perspectives and ideas. The main outcome of the workshop is a deepened understanding of the power of theater to reflect current events and emotions, as well as the ability to collaborate and create in a digital environment. Participants gain valuable skills in theater production and writing, enhancing their creative expression and fostering a sense of connection, even during times of isolation.
