Back to database

The PLURAL+ Youth Video Festival, organized by the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM), is a global initiative that encourages young people to create and submit original short films. The main objective of the festival is to empower youth to explore and address the themes of migration, diversity, social inclusion, and the prevention of xenophobia. By fostering respect for cultural diversity, PLURAL+ recognizes youth as powerful agents of positive social change. Participants are invited to submit videos of up to five minutes in any genre, such as animation, documentary, music video, or comedy, provided they convey a constructive message related to the specified themes. The festival is organized into three age categories: up to 12 years old, 13-17 years old, and 18-25 years old. Videos must include English subtitles if they are in another language. The festival's format includes an international jury that selects the best videos in each age category and confers special recognitions. Selected participants are invited to attend the PLURAL+ Ceremony, which will take place in Portugal in late 2024, with all expenses paid. The festival does not specify the delivery method for the submission process, but the recognition and award ceremony appear to be held in-person. Eligibility criteria include being no older than 25 years at the time of the video's production. Immediate family members of UNAOC, IOM staff, and PLURAL+ International Jury members are not eligible to participate. The festival's outcomes include the global distribution of youth-produced media and the opportunity for participants to have their work screened at various international venues, gaining recognition and professional opportunities.
