The Polygence Core Program provides an opportunity for students to explore a research topic of their choice and produce an outcome in the form of a research paper, application, prototype, or podcast. The program is delivered through one-on-one online Zoom sessions with a mentor, and the learners are expected to work on their projects for about 3-5 hours per week. The program duration is flexible and spans between 3-6 months, accommodating the learner's schedule. The program's main objective is to help learners gain experience in their topic of choice, deepen their understanding of critical concepts, and hone their research skills. In addition, the program's project dashboard aids in building organizational, time management, and communication skills. The mentorship is provided by experts from a variety of fields, ensuring a wide range of research areas. The Polygence Core Program requires applicants to describe their relevant experience and previous projects for certain topics, such as those requiring programming skills. This is to ensure that the learners have a strong background in the necessary skills to be successful in completing the assignments provided by the mentors. However, the program does not require prerequisite experience for all projects. Upon completion, learners are expected to have deepened their subject matter expertise, understood the research process, and developed organization, time management, and communication skills. The program does not specify any certifications, but learners have the opportunity to apply to a research writing program for a chance to earn 3 academic credits through a partnership with the pre-collegiate Gifted and Talented Institute at a top US research university.
