The Purple Comet! Math Meet is a free, international, online team mathematics competition designed for middle and high school students. Its primary objective is to engage students from around the world in solving mathematical problems of varying difficulty, from fairly easy to extremely challenging. The competition has been held annually since 2003 and has grown significantly, with participation from over 12,000 students forming more than 3,998 teams from 62 countries. Participants in the Purple Comet! Math Meet work in teams of one to six students to submit solutions to a list of mathematical problems. The competition is conducted entirely online, allowing teams to participate from their respective locations. The event is organized over a ten-day period, providing teams the flexibility to choose a start time that suits them best within this window. The next competition is scheduled to take place from April 22 through May 1, 2025. The contest is a collaborative effort between Dr. Jonathan Kane and Dr. Titu Andreescu, who are responsible for designing the contest and writing the problems. Initially housed at the University of Wisconsin - Whitewater, where the collaborators were based, the contest is now run by AwesomeMath. Participants gain valuable experience in teamwork and problem-solving, and they have the opportunity to earn certificates of awards and participation.
