The Rocket City Math League (RCML), organized by the students at Virgil I. Grissom High School in Huntsville, Alabama, is a free, student-run, international math competition for middle and high school students. Sponsored by the Mu Alpha Theta Math Honor Society, the competition aims to foster interest and develop a deeper understanding of mathematics. It consists of a year-long series of tests, including a team round known as Interschool in the fall, and three individual rounds in the spring. Participants from around the world compete in levels ranging from Pre-Algebra to Calculus. The competition is divided into five individual divisions: Explorer (Pre-Algebra), Mercury (Algebra I), Gemini (Geometry), Apollo (Algebra II), and Discovery (Comprehensive). Each student competes at their current math course level or one higher. The Interschool test is divided into Junior and Senior levels based on the grade levels of participants, with a single answer sheet submitted per school. The competition requires schools to register through a Google form, and participation in the team competition depends on the grade levels of team members. RCML is delivered through online tests sent to registered schools via email. The competition spans multiple months with specific windows for each round: Interschool in November, and individual rounds from January to March. Important submission deadlines include November 21st for Interschool results and March 28th for individual scores. The competition does not specify individual instructors, as it is primarily student-run with a faculty advisor for guidance. Participants gain valuable experience in mathematics and have the opportunity to earn trophies for top performance.
