Back to database

The San Diego Museum of Art’s Teen Council is a collaborative program for high school students, inviting them to take an active role in the Museum's initiatives. The program provides students the opportunity to work alongside Museum staff and peers in sharing ideas, developing programming, and implementing a Community Art Workshop in association with the Museum's Community Engagement department. The program is primarily conducted through monthly Zoom meetings, with some potential in-person opportunities. The Teen Council begins in October and lasts until the end of May. The application deadline is October, and the program can accommodate up to 30 participants, making it a selective and immersive learning opportunity. The Teen Council's main objectives are to explore ways to use art from the Museum's collection to foster empathy, create connections to works of art, and collaborate on hands-on projects in line with the Museum's Art + Empathy strategy. The program also provides a platform for students to share their input and feedback on Museum programs. Upon completion of the program, students will have gained valuable skills in collaboration, project design, and art appreciation, while also having the chance to contribute to the Museum's programming and community engagement efforts.
