SF YouthWorks is a program that offers high school students an opportunity to gain experience in public service and build skills for future careers. This program primarily focuses on providing paid job readiness workshops, training, and internships in various San Francisco City Departments, such as the Public Utilities Commission, Public Library, and SF International Airport. Participants of SF YouthWorks are exposed to different aspects of the public sector, offering a broad scope of experiences. They participate in professional training to equip them with skills necessary for the workforce. Interns are also paid a competitive wage of $18.93 per hour. Alongside the internships, participants are paired with city department employee mentors, providing valuable professional guidance. In addition to career-related activities, participants can engage in community service events, college campus tours, and have opportunities for leadership development through the Youth Leadership Team (YLT) program. This program also offers support with transition and future aspiration planning, aiding participants in planning for life after high school. Eligibility for SF YouthWorks is limited to 11th - 12th graders who reside or attend school in San Francisco. The program also assists those who need help obtaining a work permit. Upon completion, participants will have gained hands-on experience and skills in public service, enhancing their readiness for college and their future careers.
