The State Pre-College Enrichment Program (S-PREP) offered by Columbia University is a free initiative designed for 7th - 12th grade students who aspire to careers in medicine or related STEM fields. Aimed at increasing the number of historically underrepresented and economically disadvantaged students in college, the program improves their participation rate in mathematics, science, technology, health-related fields, and licensed professions. S-PREP consists of two sessions: a Summer Session held Monday to Friday in July, and an Academic Year session that runs on Saturdays from October to May. The curriculum encompasses a wide range of subjects including Anatomy, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Brain & Cognitive Science, Physics, Psychology, Algebra, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, Calculus, and Statistics. In addition, it offers PSAT and SAT preparation courses to ready students for college admission tests. The program is enriched with college preparation and career development workshops, college & academic counseling services, field trips, and college tours, providing students a comprehensive pre-college experience. The teaching staff comprises of Columbia Medical, Dental, or Graduate Students who work part-time as Preceptors or Program Facilitators. The eligibility to participate in S-PREP is primarily based on the student's interest in pursuing a career in medicine or STEM fields. Successful completion of the program equips students with a solid foundation in math and science, preparing them for success in college and beyond. Additionally, students gain essential skills for their SATs and receive guidance for their college admission process.
