Sustainable Youth Canada's Montreal branch (SYC Montreal) is an organization that aims to promote the assimilation of sustainable practices into urban society, to connect youth with sustainability opportunities, and to implement local initiatives for energy and environmental sustainability. The programs are designed for high school, cegep and university students who are passionate about environmental conservation and sustainable urban living. SYC Montreal has spearheaded a number of initiatives and projects. Some notable projects include the Montreal West City Council Biodiversity Initiative, where SYC Montreal served as a consultant to develop plans for increasing natural biodiversity in the township. Another noteworthy initiative was the Environmental Education in Notre-Dame-des-Victoires Summer camp, where the participants were educated about waste management and recycling. This was done through activities such as neighborhood cleanup, recycling old t-shirts into tote bags, and creating grass beings by planting grass and wildflower seeds in decorated biodegradable cups. Rain, the Communications Coordinator, is a graduate of McGill University, holding a B.Sc. in Agricultural and Environmental Sciences. She has a passion for marine conservation, urban sustainability, and environmental education. With SYC Montreal, Rain aims to raise awareness of climate issues and promote collective action towards sustainable methods and social, environmental justice. The organization is currently in a growth phase and is actively looking for new members to volunteer and contribute to their cause. They are also working on planning environmental initiatives and conferences to motivate youth to take action in making Montreal a greener city. Given their past initiatives, participants can expect to gain knowledge about sustainable practices, waste management, recycling, and other environmental conservation aspects. No specific prerequisites or requirements for participation have been mentioned.
