The Telluride Association Summer Seminar (TASS) is a free educational program that offers high school sophomores and juniors the chance to engage in college-level seminars focusing on Critical Black Studies (CBS) or Anti-Oppressive Studies (AOS). TASS-CBS seminars explore topics related to the history, politics, and culture of African-descended communities, while TASS-AOS seminars examine systems of power and oppression, such as white supremacy and patriarchy. The curriculum involves daily three-hour seminars, discussions, lectures, and small-group projects, aimed at developing participants' critical thinking, reading, and writing skills. In addition to the academic focus, TASS emphasizes community building through democratic decision-making, public speaking, and transformative justice activities. Students work together to create a supportive, inclusive environment by planning outings, service projects, and group activities. The program includes mentorship from faculty and resident advisors, who guide participants in both academic and community experiences. TASS covers all expenses, including tuition, books, room, and board, and offers additional financial assistance to those who may otherwise need to work during the summer.
