The Texas High School Aerospace Scholars (HAS) presented by NASA is a STEM-focused learning opportunity designed to engage high school juniors from Texas with NASA's missions and inspire them to be part of the next generation of space explorers. The program spans a year and begins in the fall with a four-month online learning experience that covers topics related to space exploration, Earth science, technology, and aeronautics. The top-performing students from the online course are invited to participate in a five-day gamified virtual summer experience, referred to as Moonshot, where they are mentored by NASA scientists and engineers. During the virtual summer experience, students work in teams to plan an Artemis-themed mission to the Moon and Mars. The highest achieving teams from the virtual summer experience are then invited to a two-day residential experience at NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston. The HAS program is open to U.S. citizens who are residents of Texas and are in their junior year of high school. The main outcomes of the program include a comprehensive understanding of space exploration, Earth science, technology, and aeronautics, as well as the opportunity to engage with NASA's missions and work on an Artemis-themed mission. The program equips participants with the skills and knowledge required to potentially become part of the next generation of space explorers.
