The Possible Zone (TPZ) is a tuition-free, experiential learning program designed to help young people develop the entrepreneurial spirit, skills, and networks needed to launch successful careers. The program targets high school students from Boston Public Schools, focusing on those in 10th or 11th grades when they start at TPZ. Participants must be at English Level 3 or above and can have an Individualized Education Program (IEP) plan in place with their school. The curriculum at TPZ focuses on imparting essential entrepreneurship skills like problem-solving and design thinking and technical skills in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math). Students are provided with opportunities to learn from local industry partners like Converse and develop valuable social and emotional skills. The teaching approach is primarily hands-on, facilitated in a state-of-the-art Innovation Center, which provides all the necessary project supplies, tools, and equipment for learning. Besides fostering growth mindset and relationship skills, TPZ also guides students to navigate career and college pathways. They gain skills like critical thinking, problem-solving, growth mindset, perseverance, optimism, and teamwork. Some participants might earn college credits through partnerships with institutions like Ben Franklin Institute of Technology, Cambridge College, and Bay Path University, and potentially high school credits if their school is among those participating in the program. In addition to the educational benefits, TPZ also offers practical benefits like a stipend of at least $24 for each class attended, free meals on every day of attendance, and provision of necessary project supplies. The program aims to prepare students for successful careers, particularly in innovative fields that are emerging in Industry 4.0. TPZ is committed to helping students find their passions, cultivate essential skills, mindsets, and assets, and shape their futures for upward economic mobility in their chosen paths.
