Getty Unshuttered is a free platform and community designed to inspire creativity and promote social good through photography and social justice advocacy. It provides arts integration resources for high school teachers and students, including lessons and activities to explore the medium of photography and its social impact. These resources are intended to be used in classrooms to educate students on how photographs can convey potent messages and inspire positive change. The curriculum includes three series of lessons that can be used as a complete unit or as individual lessons. Topics covered include: - Social Justice Advocacy and Photography: Exploring self-identity, community, and service. - Visual Narrative and Photography: Understanding the art of storytelling through photography. - Foundational Photography Skills: Learning basic photography skills such as composition, light, and perspective. The lessons are delivered online and include lesson webpages, worksheets, and an Educator Resource PDF for more in-depth facilitation and assessment suggestions. Participants will gain skills in photography, learn to create compelling visual narratives, and understand how to use photography as a tool for social justice advocacy.
