The Wind Symphony, offered by the Las Vegas Youth Orchestras, is an enriching opportunity for talented young musicians in grades 9 through 12. The program welcomes students skilled in Winds, Brass, and Percussion, aiming to expand their musical skills and engage them both intellectually and physically in a structured orchestral setting. Under the direction of Dr. Lindsey O'Connor, participants are expected to commit their time and energy to prepare and perform, thereby serving as examples of academic and musical excellence. The program is delivered through weekly in-person rehearsals held on Tuesday evenings, from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM, at the Lawrence Middle School Band Room. The Wind Symphony operates on a cyclical schedule, with rehearsal dates segmented into Fall, Winter, and Spring concert cycles. Each cycle culminates with a concert performance, showcasing the learned repertoire. Notably, the schedule spans multiple months, starting in August and concluding in April, allowing for substantial skill development and practice. Participation in the Wind Symphony requires auditions, ensuring that all students have the necessary skill level to contribute to the ensemble. Additionally, participants from the Clark County School District are required to be part of their school's music program. The Wind Symphony's main outcome is to prepare students for future musical endeavors, potentially at collegiate and professional levels. Participants can expect to improve their instrumental proficiency, ensemble performance skills, and gain a deeper understanding of complex symphonic repertoire.
