Back to database
The Teen Ambassador Program by Zoo New England is a comprehensive initiative designed for Boston youth aged 15 to 17 with a keen interest in wildlife, education, and environmental justice. The program provides a platform for these teenagers to represent and connect Franklin Park Zoo with the community, participating in numerous activities, projects, and professional development workshops. The program is conducted on-site from October to May, requiring a commitment of 15 hours per week. Participants first undergo the ZooTeen program, where they are assigned to work on one of various departments including animal care, education, horiculture, and marketing. Applications to become a Teen Ambassador are typically distributed to Summer ZooTeens in mid-August. Participants in the program simulate work as true zookeepers, preparing them for a future in animal care. Through a variety of hands-on experiences and learning opportunities centered on wildlife conservation, zoological practices, and community outreach, participants will gain a profound understanding of these areas, along with valuable professional development skills.
